An outline of your plans

Electives:

    • Advanced Orthopedic Assessment and Intervention
    • Topics in Sports Physical Therapy
    • Advanced Neuromuscular Intervention

Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion

Throughout my time in the DPT program at UNC I have had countless opportunities to work along-side many people with different ethnic, racial, and social backgrounds as a coworker, healthcare provider, personal trainer, friend, and as a student. These relationships were formed in many different settings across the state of North Carolina allowing me to learn from each and every interaction. These experiences have helped me become a better clinician as I am more informed and more adaptable with treating any patient that walks through my door.

As I continue my career into the outpatient orthopedic specialty of physical therapy I will continue to learn and grow my skills to better treat the many patients that I will see in my future with an individualized approach to achieve the best results possible. I will strive to treat each patient to the best of my ability and learn from every patient as I continue in my career.

Interprofessional Educational Activities

Being presented with many opportunities to collaborate and work alongside other professionals in the health/fitness and healthcare industry has deepened my appreciation and knowledge for these specialties. Every provider has their own areas of strength creating a team of professionals that can work together to create the best plan of care for all patients. Having a better understanding of these different specialties allows me to work in a synergistic manner with other providers to tackle all of the deficits that our patients have with our combined skills and knowledge in every area for the best possible outcomes.

Reflective Statement

During my time in Physical Therapy school I have learned to become comfortable with the most common saying in the profession “it depends”. This saying is important not only for the clinical evaluation and treatment as a healthcare provider but also in life as I am now more adaptable and flexible when dealing with many different situations from patients, coworkers, school, friends, and family. I learned an immense amount about how to best treat my patients as a physical therapist, but I am most proud of my overall professional and personal development over this time as I have had to overcome many barriers with the academic rigor and social demands that were needed to succeed not only in school but as I grew my own personal training business and personal relationships. This personal growth will continue into my career as I will push myself with high expectations to provide up to date evidence based care. During these challenges the importance of self care also became apparent. I will work to maintain my own personal well-being through activities and relationships with others that give me the energy to be the best Physical Therapist I can. This will help reduce any feeling of burnout that has become so prevalent in the field of physical therapy and can be detrimental to the quality of care that is provided to my patients. A message for future or current physical therapists is to also find ways to prioritize your mental and physical health as this will impact our quality of care.
