Interprofessional Education Activities (IPE)

Participating in IPE events has shifted the way I approach healthcare collaboration. These experiences helped me better understand the roles, values, and expertise that other health disciplines bring to patient care. I learned the importance of open communication, shared decision-making, and respecting diverse perspectives; especially when managing complex or acute cases. Moving forward, I will prioritize interdisciplinary collaboration, actively seek input from colleagues in other professions, and work to ensure that my patients benefit from a team-based approach. These lessons will enhance my ability to deliver holistic, patient-centered care in any setting.

Self-Reflection

Reflecting on my time in the UNC Doctor of Physical Therapy program, I am proud of the personal and professional growth I have experienced over these past three years. One of the most significant aspects of my growth has been learning to balance efficiency with compassionate, patient-centered care in an environment that demands quick decision-making and adaptability. This program has also taught me the importance of lifelong learning and evidence-based practice, which I am committed to continuing as I enter my career. Looking ahead, I see myself thriving as an Acute Care PT. As I graduate and begin my professional journey, I am grateful for the foundation this program has provided and excited about the opportunities to grow and make a meaningful impact in my career.

Dan, your unique business background in conjunction with your DPT degree and value for healthcare collaboration well positions you to be a positive agent of change in healthcare. I appreciate your thoughtful reflection with regard to wanting to improve your professional engagement via advocacy and conference participation. I highly encourage you to get involved early, as I anticipate that it would be rewarding both personally and professionally. APTA North Carolina’s Early Professional SIG (https://www.aptanc.org/early-professionals-sig8147584b) is a good group to look into. All the Best!
