Professional Goal Statement

After graduating from the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill with my Doctor of Physical Therapy degree, I aspire to become a well-rounded physical therapist, with the clinical knowledge and experience to treat patients across a variety of diagnoses. While my interests include a broad range of conditions, I have a passion for working with patients who have neurologic involvements. I recognize that in order to successfully treat a patient, I must use a multi-system approach, which requires me to have adequate skills in the many areas of physical therapy. I intend to continue to develop and refine my skillset and ability to treat patients by pursuing additional certifications, advocate consistently, and assist with research development. I aim to work in an environment that will support and develop both my personal and professional goals in order to allow me to provide the best possible care to my patients.

Reflection

The past 3 years at Carolina has provided me the opportunity to not only develop my professional dreams but has also nurtured and expanded my personal experiences and understandings.  I have become a better person through my interactions with faculty members, peers, patients, and clinicians. The opportunities and encounters I have been afforded has given me life-long mentors and friends, whom I am grateful to learn and grow alongside. We have supported, encouraged, and developed one another throughout the years, especially through this COVID-19 pandemic.

When I began the DPT program, I was unsure where this journey would land me. Through my involvement as an MS/NEURO scholar, I have realized my passion for those with neurologic conditions. I have been given an opportunity to develop special connections with those involved in the neuro community and am appreciative for their support. I am excited to begin my career with the skills I have developed throughout my educational journey.

I am forever grateful for my clinical instructors, peers, faculty, and family who have supported and encouraged me throughout these past three years. I am I have been inspired by my experiences at Carolina to continue to advocate for my patients and profession, to provide the best possible care to those who need it. I am proud to be a Tar Heel and hope to continue to continue to support this school, in addition to this profession, as it has supported me.

Congratulation and thank you to Class of 2021 and the UNC faculty!
